Police have arrested a man for setting fire to Kulhudhuffushi City's PNC candidate Farhath Mohamed's campaign office.
Police said the man was arrested while at the airport trying to exit the country.
Anwar Mohamed, 31, Heenamaage/HDh. Kulhudhuffushi was arrested on arson charges and deliberately damaging property.
Anwar was arrested on Thursday and presented to Criminal Court on Friday to determine his remand.
The Court order said that Anwar had sought medical attention at a different island for his injuries although sufficient medical services were available in Kulhudhuffushi City. Furthermore, the order said that Anwar had not received the chit sent by the court and he was arrested while at the airport trying to exit the country.
In his defence, Anwar said that he was not trying to flee the country, but was flying for his son's medicals. His defence said that his sibling had received the chit on his behalf.
Criminal Court ordered a 10-day remand for Anwar based on the evidence submitted by Police stating that Anwar was a threat to societal peace.
