Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam has said that the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) has a super majority in the parliament but will not take advantage of it.

Speaking on PSM News' "Raajje Miadhu" program, Vice President PPM Shiyam said that the current MDP's majority parliament has been creating obstacles for the government.

Shiyam said that while PPM/PNC was a minority party in the ongoing 19th parliament, MDP members made jokes and caused hardships and suppressed the voice of the minority in the parliament.

"When we started in the 19th Parliament, it was very difficult, we had very few members. When we started talking about a bill or an important issue, we saw the same six people shouting and joking. It's not a scene that the people of the country want to see today. We will not take advantage of a super majority" said Shiyam, who represented Naifaru constituency until assuming his post as a Minister.

Shiyam said the government will respect the minority in parliament and the 20th Parliament will speed up the pace of the government and support development.

The PNC will have 73 members in the 20th Parliament, and with pro-government lawmakers, the number stands at 77.
