The Election Commission (EC) has said that there is no reason to recount any ballot boxes in the parliamentary elections as of yet.
The EC has been requested to recount all the ballot boxes of Dhuvaafaru constituency, and ballot box number five placed at the National University Hall in Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo for the south constituency..
EC member Hassan Zakariyya told One Online today that while the independent candidate Ibrahim Abdul Rahman had requested the recount of the Dhuvaafaru boxes, no legitimate reason has been identified to do so.
"An official statement will be issued today," Zakariyya said.
According to the provisional results, PNC candidate Mohammed Ali won the Dhuvaafaru constituency by a margin of only four votes. According to the provisional results, Mohammed Ali got 1074 votes while Ibrahim Abdul Rahman got 1070 votes.
The EC is also taking a similar stand on the request to recount the box in Thinadhoo.
