The Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) has said that it has not decided to appeal the High Court verdict quashing the 11-year jail sentence handed down to former President Abdullah Yameen.

On December 25, 2022, the Criminal Court sentenced him to seven years in jail for money laundering and four years for accepting bribes in the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) Corruption Scandal.

He appealed the verdict in the High Court in March last year. The High Court concluded the hearings on November 21 last year.

The High Court last week quashed the Criminal Court's judgment and ordered a retrial.

A prosecutor's office official told One today that Yameen's case is being discussed for an appeal in the Supreme Court. However, a decision will be taken next week, he said.

Such cases will have 60 days to appeal to the Supreme Court.
