Elections Commission has begun announcing results of the Parliamentary elections as ballots continue to be counted.

According to EC, 72 percent of eligible voters cast their ballots in the election.

As per the results, PNC has won 62 seats in the parliament while MDP won 11 seats and Jumhooree Party, Adhaalat Party, MNP, MDA and The Democrats won 1 seat each. Seven independent candidates secured seats in the parliament.

According to the temporary results, PNC has won close to a super majority in the parliament.

Voting commenced at 0800hrs on Sunday and polls were closed at 1730hrs. EC said that ballot counting began half an hour after polls closed.

A total of 207,693 people voted in the Parliamentary elections this round.
