Former President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayoom has called for the cancellation of the agreement for the Fushidhiggaru Development Project or RasMalé Project.

The government has awarded the dredging of the lagoon to Sri Lanka's Capital Marine and Construction Company (CMCC). The company was awarded the contract with a 99 year lease on 10 hectares of land in Hulhumalé and 60 hectares of land in Rasmalé.

Speaking to his supporters in Fuvahmulah City ahead of the Parliamentary Election, the former President stated that projects like the RasMalé Project needs to be stopped.

"I will not say yes, we will not say yes to the attempt to dredge RasMalé now, we are still saying no today to sell our lands at a cheap price that enslaves us, cancel the agreement," he said.

Yameen said the People’s National Front (PNF), which he led, would work for the benefit of the people, including holding the government accountable for various scandals surfacing regarding the officials of this government.
