People's National Front (PNF)'s priority would be to hold the government accountable, former president Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said.
Yameen's 11-year prison sentence was overturned by High Court on Thursday, freeing him from money laundering and bribery charges.
Speaking to the media outside of the High Court after the ruling on Thursday, Yameen said that the government has made some unacceptable decisions in the past months. As such, he added that the Administration has given political posts to people without adequate qualifications.
He also accused the Administration of selling reclaimed land to foreign parties, calling it unacceptable.
"We will stand firm when it comes to matters that affect the public. We will not stand for injustice and unfairness. We will hold the government accountable. This does not mean we are personally criticising President Dr. Muizzu, but rather criticising his policies," Yameen said.
Yameen said that the 'India Out' campaign has been dwindled and that there is still foreign military presence in the country. He added that the current administration has not dissolved former administration's decree to stop the 'India Out' campaign.
He added that a lot of his rights had been lost due to the delay in the appeal hearing ruling. Yameen said that even President Dr. Muizzu would agree that MDP has been influencing the judiciary and that he does not accept Speaker Aslam submitting a motion to JSC over his hearing.
"The President saying it is unacceptable that MDP influenced judiciary to hasten the case ruling shows that the President wished to wait this out," Yameen said.
Yameen said that he is not too worried about losing the right to contest in the Presidential Election but that a lot of his other rights have been lost due to delays in justice.
