The appeal hearing for former president Yameen Abdul Gayoom's money laundering and bribery case has been scheduled for Thursday.

The hearing is scheduled for 1100hrs at the Hight Court.

Yameen was sentenced for 11 years for money laundering and bribery. His appeal case hearings were concluded on 21 November 2023 where Yameen, Yoosuf Naeem and the State were given 30 minutes to present their cases.

A ruling has to be made within 30 days after the hearings conclude. However, High Court went to recess without ruling on the appeal hearing.

Once High Court commenced after recess, Yameen's hearing has been pending for the past five months. Yameen and his lawyers have previously raised concerns over the delay in the appeal hearing ruling.

Additionally, Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Aslam has also submitted a complaint to Judicial Service Commission (JSC) regarding the delay in Yameen's appeal ruling.
