MDP asking JSC to probe into delay on Yameen's appeal verdict is a joke: Heena

Progressive Congress Coalition's Chief Spokesperson Heena Waleed has said it is a joke that MDP has requested Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to probe into the delay in former president Yameen Abdul Gayoom's appeal hearing.

The request was made to JSC on behalf of MDP by Parliament Speaker Mohamed Aslam on Saturday.

Speaking at Progressive Congress Coalition's press conference on Sunday, Heena said that it is a joke that Aslam appealed to JSC to probe into the issue when JSC has an MDP majority.

She added that two of the judges in the High Court bench presiding over Yameen's case were appointed during MDP's government.

Hearings on the Aarah case appeal were concluded on 21 November 2023. High Court is yet to announce a verdict.
