President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the Isdhoo-Dhanbidhoo causeway will be built based on the designs created by Housing Ministry during former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom's tenure.

President Dr. Muizzu previously filled the role of Housing Minister in Yameen's Administration.

President Dr. Muizzu met with Isdhoo residents during his visit to Laamu Atoll on Thursday. Speaking to the residents of the island, the President said that the previous government had initiated the causeway project without consideration to the resident's opinions.

"The designs finalised during president Yameen's tenure when I was Housing Minister was compiled to create a more spacious and convenient causeway. The former government has made changes to the design. The residents want the previous design and so I have instructed Construction Minister to check the possibility of reverting to the previous design," President Dr. Muizzu said.

He added that the Administration will also prioritise urban development in Isdhoo, and that with the support of the residents, the development projects will be carried forward at a faster pace.

President Dr. Muizzu noted that the Parliament had removed some of the development projects requested by the Administration. As such, he said that projects initially planned to kick off in April can only commence by the end of the year.

He further said that due to budget constraints, the Administration has been unable to carry out development projects as per plan but that some projects have now been tendered.
