President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the development of resorts near Laamu Atoll Maavah will begin soon.
The President, who is currently visiting Laamu, said the government has decided to expand tourism in the area to provide income opportunities to the people of Maavah.
"As the council president mentioned and the tourism minister detailed in the council meeting, the resort projects will be implemented. Hopefully, just as you requested, we will soon see tourist resorts near this island. I assure you of that," he said.
The President said Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal is doing everything possible to bring development projects and investments to Maavah.
"The result will be employment opportunities near the island, especially for the youth and for all," he said.
The President also said that he would reclaim 30 hectares of land for Maavah instead of the previously decided 15 hectares. He will also dredge the land and implement housing projects.
In addition, the field work of the road construction project will start very soon and rivetment works will be carried out to protect the shore area, he said.
