Greater Male' Region hit record temperature of 48.4 degree celsius on Wednesday, Maldives Meteorology Centre has said.

Meteorology Centre said that by 1400hrs on Wednesday, temperature rose above 48 degrees, while temperatures of 46 degrees were recorded in the area last week.

According to statistics shared by the Meteorology Centre, temperature across the country has been above 40 degrees, with air temperatures fluctuating between 32.2 and 33.6 degrees.

The Meteorology Centre said that temperature is expected to be above 45 degrees in the upcoming days. Temperatures are expected to be highest between 1100 - 1500hrs, Meteorology Centre said.
