Home Minister Ali Ihusan has directed Police Commissioner Ali Shujau to review and look into the use of force and the reason behind the use of SO police in disrupting the People’s National Front (PNF) founding rally at Ghiyasuddin International School last night.

PNF, founded by former president Yameen was given go-ahead by Elections Commission to hold its inaugural meeting. The meeting was initially scheduled for Monday night but was postponed due to pending approvals.

PNF's senior members attended the inaugural meeting at 2100hrs at Ghiyaasuddin International School (GIS) tonight, but Police closed the school gate and interrupted the party's meeting.

Speaking on the issue on X, Police Spokesperson Ahmed Shifan said that Education Ministry had requested from Police to stop an unlawful gathering at GIS as no permits had been secured to hold the meeting there.

Police said they were abiding by the request from the Ministry.

Home Minister Ali Ihusan said in a post on X yesterday that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu had ordered the police not to use unreasonable force while maintaining security during peaceful demonstrations and protests. He has also been asked not to use SO police except in special circumstances.

"I have asked the Police Commissioner to review the use of force and the reason for using SO near Ghiyassuddin School last night. Ihusan explained.

The PNF rally was later held in a very casual manner at the Bridge View Platform area late last night after police obstructed it.
