People's National Front (PNF) has held the party's inaugural meeting and elected former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom's son Zain Abdulla Yameen has been elected Party president.
PNF initially planned the inaugural meeting for Monday night after Elections Commission gave the party go-ahead to hold the meeting. The meeting was postponed to Tuesday night due to pending approvals from the Government.
However, Police intervened and dispersed the meeting that was planned for 2100hrs at Ghiyaasuddin International School. PNF members then gathered at Raalhugandu area to hold the inaugural meeting there.
President's Office, in a message to the media, said on Tuesday night that Social Centre had been designated to PNF for their inaugural meeting and the latter had been communicated to PNF by the Sports Minister.
PNF's inaugural meeting was attended by 329 members. While Zain was elected Party president, Maleeh Jamaal was elected Secretary General and Ahmed Musthafa was elected temporary Treasurer and Ali Shiyan was elected temporary Registrar unanimously by the attendees at the meeting.
Additionally, former president Yameen was elected as an Executive Committee Member of PNF during the meeting. The 20-member Executive Committee of PNF that includes Yameen, Zain and Maleeh was elected unanimously by the party members in attendance tonight.
During the meeting, the party colour, logo, address and general rules were also passed unanimously by the member in attendance.
Yameen visited the area once the meeting came to an end and met with the party's supporters to exchange Eid greetings.
