People's National Front (PNF)'s inaugural meeting has been dispersed by Police.

PNF, founded by former president Yameen was given go-ahead by Elections Commission to hold its inaugural meeting. The meeting was initially scheduled for Monday night but was postponed due to pending approvals.

PNF's senior members attended the inaugural meeting at 2100hrs at Ghiyaasuddin International School (GIS) tonight, but Police closed the school gate and interrupted the party's meeting.

PNF's senior official and former Communications Minister Maleeh Jamaal said that the party had secured all the prior approvals to hold the inaugural meeting.

"This is a civil issue. Police have no right to intervene and interrupt the meeting. We have the agreement provided by the school. It is unlawful for the police to interrupt the meeting," Maleeh said.

Former president Yameen was supposed to attend PNF's inaugural meeting tonight.

Speaking on the issue on X, Police Spokesperson Ahmed Shifan said that Education Ministry had requested from Police to stop an unlawful gathering at GIS as no permits had been secured to hold the meeting there.

Police said they were abiding by the request from the Ministry.

EC officials were present at the scene when Police dispersed the gathering. PNF supporters have been calling for President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's resignation following tonight's events.
