The water fountain in Jumhooree Maidhaan has been re-opened for the public.

President Dr. Mohmamed Muizzu inaugurated the ceremony to re-open the fountain for the public. Additionally, all major cities and atoll capitals have been festively lit up for Eid al-Fitr.

The First Couple and the Vice President and his spouse attended the ceremony alongside the cabinet, senior government officials and managers of state-owned enterprises.

The fountain was built during the tenure of former president Yameen Abdul Gayoom but had been shut down and in need of repairs due to negligence. The repair and re-opening of the fountain was led by Public Works Ministry under the initiative of the President.

The fountain was built as a monument that represents national unity.
