Maldives Police Service has began investigating an assault case involving a minor in AA. Rasdhoo.

A video that surfaced on social media showed a young boy being verbally and physically assaulted by a group of young boys inside a mosque rest room. However, it is unclear what led to the assault.

Spokesperson of Police Ahmed Shifan, in a message to the media, said that Police have determined the incident took place in AA. Rasdhoo and is being investigated as a serious case.

Police media said that their investigation has confirmed the perpetrators - a 13-year-old and a 14-year-old.

Police urged the public not to share the video footage of the assault to maintain the dignity of the child who was being assaulted. Police further said that they are working on providing social support for the victim.
