Candidates contesting the 21st parliamentary elections have started signing their voters lists.

The Election Commission (EC) said in a post today that the signing of voters lists will be conducted from 10:00 am today until 12:00 pm tomorrow at the main polling station, Dharubaaruge.

If a person is going on behalf of the candidate, he/she should bring a letter signed by the candidate including his/her full name, permanent address and identity card number, and a copy of the candidate's ID card.

The permanent list of eligible voters for this year’s parliamentary elections was released on the 25th of this month. According to the list, 284,663 people are eligible to vote in the parliamentary elections. There are 139,361 females and 14,5302 eligible males.

The Election Commission initially decided to hold the parliamentary elections on 17th of this month. However, the Election Commission has decided to hold the parliamentary elections on 21st of next month following an amendment to the General Election Act.

602 ballot boxes will be set up for the election. With the change in the number of constituencies, the 20th parliament will have 93 constituencies. A total of 369 candidates will contest the elections.
