Former Economic Minister and MDP's Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail has said that he is being investigation in RDC corruption case under orders from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Fayyaz was summoned to Police for questioning over the RDC corruption case which was submitted in September 2022. Fayyaz has denied all allegations against him.
Following the interrogation, Fayyaz told the media that Home Minister Ali Ihusan has been directed by the President to investigate him. He added that he was questioned regarding his financial statements regarding a loan taken by a company he has a stake in.
"This has nothing to do with me in the first place. This is all being done on the President's request. However, this is very clear cut. This is all to defame me," Fayyaz said.
He said that the administration is acting on political grounds and that he will not be intimidated by these tactics.
"Using police resources for political prejudices is a hindrance to police duties. I urge the government to stop this," he said.
Fayyaz's legal counsel Mahfouz Saeed said that police did not provide any proof that Fayyaz is related to RDC corruption case.
