Arrangements are being made to issue passports and IDs from Atoll Councils across the nation.

Speaking at a press conference at Iskandhar Koshi on Thursday, Minister Adam Shareef said that the decision was made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

Immigration Controller Mohamed Shamman Waheed said that passport issuance in atolls will be carried out in phases. As such, he said efforts are underway to generate resources and complete administrative requirements to hire staff in the atolls.

Shamaan added that the aim is to also offer other immigration services in the atolls in future.

Homeland Ministry's Deputy Minister Ahmed Ali said that efforts are underway to offer ID card issuance from Atoll Councils and the aim is to print ID cards in the atolls in future.
