Former Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail has been summoned to appear before the police tomorrow for questioning in the 2022 Road Development Corporation (RDC) corruption case.
Fayyaz shared a photo of the summon on X. According to the summons, Fayyaz has been summoned to the Sergeant Adam Haleem Criminal Investigation Building at 3:00 pm tomorrow.
According to the summon, Fayyaz is being summoned to the police for questioning over his alleged financial gain from the fraud committed by distributing the funds received by the RDC to its owners, affiliates, and companies.
Along with the photo of the summon, Fayyaz posted on X, saying that a series of baseless political accusations had begun. He also said that the case being investigated by the RDC is unfounded and he has not done anything to accuse him of doing anything.
The 2022 RDC fraud case was reported to the police in September 2022 during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's tenure.
Economic Crime Department Head Superintendent of Police Abdullah Rasheed told a news conference on March 3 that a total of MVR 14 million had been deposited into the personal accounts of three employees of the RDC. MVR 11 million has been deposited in the account of one of them.
Rasheed said the money has been sent from the accounts of RDC employees to the accounts of senior government officials or companies of senior government officials.
Therefore, the case of money deposited in the accounts of former government officials and businesses related to them is also being investigated, he said.
