STELCO, MWSC, and FENAKA have stated that the fines accumulated on utility bills will be pardoned as per President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's request once the dues are paid.
During a joint press conference by the utility companies, MWSC's Managing Director Abdul Matheen Mohamed said that all the fines on the electricity and water bills will be pardoned once the bills are cleared. He added that the bills can be cleared at once or in instalments.
"The Boards have decided that outstanding bills will be counted as those outstanding by end of 2023. As such, the fines will be pardoned once the outstanding is cleared. This can be done at once or through instalments," Matheen said.
He added that the outstanding bills can be cleared from next month until end of this year.
Matheen said that out of the 60,000 domestic customers, only about 3,000 customers have outstanding bills.
He added that MVR 17 million has been accumulated as fines by end of 2023 with an outstanding of MVR 45 million.
