Parliament's Committee on Security Services (241 Committee) has decided to summon Defence Minister Ghassan Maumoon to clarify further information on the military drone purchase from Türkiye as well as the terror attack on former President Mohamed Nasheed on 6 May 2021.

The summon was proposed by MP Hassan Latheef and seconded by MP Hussain Mohamed Didi. The committee decision on the summon was unanimously supported by all the committee members.

As per the Committee, Minister Ghassan is required to attend the Committee meeting and share the additional details on Nasheed's case as well as the military drones within 5 days.

Minister Ghassan stated on Monday that MNDF has received additional information regarding the attack on Nasheed in 2021.

Answering a question by MP Imthiyaz Fahmy on Monday, Minister Ghassan said that he will share whatever information the Parliament requires.

He added that details on the military drones can only be shared with the 241 Committee as well.

Speaking at the Parliament on Monday, Ghassan said that the drones were acquired legally and under legal procedures to guarantee transparency and that all documentation is available.
