Health Minister Abdulla Khaleel has said the administration's aim is to ensure patients don't have to wait in long queue's to see specialists at IGMH.

Minister Khaleel said the government aims to resolve this issue by the end of the current administrations' tenure. Responding to questions posed by the Parliament on Tuesday, Minister Khaleel said that it has been noticed that patients have had wait times up to 5 months to see specialists for serious health conditions.

"Appointments are difficult to secure and some doctors have a long wait time, specially some specialist doctors. We are looking into ways to increase work hours for doctors to try and cut the wait time," Minister Khaleel said.

He added that IGMH is formulating additional plans for this as well. As such, IGMH is compiling a proposal to design policies accordingly.

"IGMH is formulating policies to see how the hospital can increase services. This includes getting additional doctors onboard if required," Minister Khaleel said.
