The Registrar of the High Court has decided not to accept a petition filed by Hithadhoo Central MP (Checkmark) Ahmed Rasheed seeking more time to contest this year's parliamentary elections.

The High Court Registrar's decision stated that the Court cannot accept the petition as all concerns related to elections have to be submitted to Supreme Court.

Rasheed had filed his nomination papers on behalf of The Democrats to contest from Hithadhoo Central constituency, but later withdrew his nomination.

He told One that he withdrew his nomination because he "doesn't want to go ahead with it right now", but did not elaborate further.

A total of 2,84,897 people are eligible to vote in the parliamentary elections, which will be held on April 21.
