STELCO has stated that power outages in Hulhumale' on Thursday night and Friday were caused due to theft of parts of the transformer.

STELCO's Managing Director Hussain Fahmy said in a post on X on Friday night that it has been noticed that STELCO's substations are being damaged, they are being broken, transformers are switched off and different parts of the transformer are being stolen.

"Power outages occurred in different parts of Hulhumale' on Friday morning and evening due to theft by transformers," Fahmy said.

Fahmy added that stealing transformers was a risky thing to do.

"The theft of parts of the transformer is an impediment to our efforts to provide round-the-clock power supply and hence we demand immediate action against those indulging in such activities," Fahmy said.

He also requested from the authorities to take actions against the perpetrators.
