Civil Court has sentenced Ali Zubair, Guleynooranmaa/GDh. Hoandehdhoo, to 25 years in prison with a fine of MVR 100,000 for trafficking diamorphine.

The case was registered on December 12, 2021, following a tip-off to the police that they were carrying drugs in a taxi near Mary Brown, Male' Boduthakurufaanu Magu. Police took Ali Zubair and Ahmed Sunain and Ahmed Mujahidh into custody after drugs were recovered from inside the luggage in the car's trunk.

As per the chargesheet, drugs were also recovered from their residence and the motorcycle they were using.

All the three accused have been charged with trafficking in diamorphine.

However, in this case, the Criminal Court found that the charges against Sunain and Mujahidh were not proved beyond reasonable doubt as stated in the constitution.
