The Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works has released a criteria for the selection of islands for the construction of the council office in 50 islands as announced by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu last month.

During a meeting held in Makunudhoo last month, the President said that a major project to build an office building to run the council's offices will be started this year, which is not in the budget.

In response, the Local Government Ministry issued a notification on Wednesday, announcing the criteria and marks to be awarded for selecting 50 councils to be constructed on a investor-financed basis.

The criteria for awarding marks is as follows:

  • Rural population: 20 points
  • Council Resources: 20 Points
  • Building conditions: 20 points
  • Work space for Councilors: 10 points
  • Work space for staff: 10 points
  • Women's Development Committee seats: 10 points
  • Kangathi Award: 10 points

The Ministry has opened for opinions on the criteria and grading categories until 1300hrs next Thursday.
