Construction and Infrastructure Minister Abdullah Mutalib has revealed that water and sewerage works are ongoing in 77 islands.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Senaco Hall of the Radio Building yesterday, Minister Muthalib said that when President Dr Mohammed Muizzu took over the government, 27 water and sewerage projects were stalled for various reasons.
A total of 177 projects have been contracted for beach protection and land reclamation projects in 97 islands, of which 30 projects have been stopped, he said.
One of the reasons for the stalled work is the money owed by MTCC to suppliers. For example, works have come to a standstill due to lack of oil and money to be paid to suppliers for bringing stone, he said.
However, now that MTCC management and suppliers have worked together to make payments to suppliers, many projects are in the process of being restarted.
