Islamic Ministry has said Eid Prayers will begin at 0700hrs.

In a statement signed by Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs said that eid prayers are currently being held in the Maldives at 0730hrs but this year's Eid prayers will begin at 0700hrs.

Minister Shaheem said the decision to expedite Eid prayers in the Maldives was taken as there were complaints that those attending the congregation, including children, women, the elderly and those with special needs, had to bear hardships due to the heat.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs on Monday, Eid prayers will be held in large congregations in the Male' area on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr this year, just like every other year.

Places for Eid prayers in large congregations:

  • Maafannu Stadium
  • The Islamic Centre
  • King Salman Mosque
  • Villimale' Football Ground
  • Hulhumale' Synthetic Track
  • Cricket Stadium in Hulhumale' Phase 2

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has announced to find people who can provide food and tea to those preparing Eid prayers. The Ministry is also looking for interested parties who will manage sound during Eid prayers.

As per the calendar, Eid-ul-fitr will be celebrated on April 10.
