The Meeting of the State Owned Enterprises Committee (SOE Committee) of the Parliament, convened to question FENAKA officials has been concluded owing to differences in opinion amongst committee members over Committee chair Kendhikulhudhoo MP Ahmed Easa's decisions.
FENAKA's Managing Director Muaz Mohamed Rasheed and other senior officials were summoned for today's meeting of the SOE Committee regarding the problem of power supply to Fuvahmulah.
Members of the Committee complained over MP Hussain Mohamed Didi presiding over the meeting as he represents Fuvahmulah. A complaint was filed with the Committee alleging that FENAKA had not done enough to solve the issues with the generators to provide electricity to Fuvahmulah.
SOE Committee's Chair, MP Easa then presided over the meeting. However, things escalated after MP Easa decided every member will be given a chance to ask a question and that he will ensure all the questions are answered.
However, the members opposed it said that as per the procedure of questioning in the committees in general, they wanted the committee meeting to be held by allowing the members to ask questions when they want to ask questions.
MP Easa stated that the meeting would carry on as decided by him. Dhandhoo MP Yaugoob Abdulla strong opposed to this, stating that the meeting should be held according to the request of the members and not according to the wishes of the Chair.
As the difference in opinion escalated, MP Easa concluded the meeting stating they could not proceed in this manner.
