Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has said that of the MVR 50.3 million that was asked to be recovered by the state last year, only MVR 200,000 has been recovered by the state government.
According to the commission's annual report released today, the ACC decided to recover MVR 74 million in 15 cases to the state, but out of the MVR 74 million, only MVR 50.3 million was sought by the agencies. Out of MVR 50.3 million, only MVR 200,000 was recovered by the state.
According to the annual report, in 2019, ACC had asked the agencies to recover MVR 160 million from the state government and in 2022, it had sought MVR 35 million as against MVR 50.3 million last year.
The agency said that though it has the power to direct the recovery of the money, it is not part of its legal obligations to recover the funds.
