Two people have been arrested in connection with the seizure of Telegram groups used to commit various serious crimes, police said.

Police said the seized telegram groups were "Jazeera Admin", "Jazeera Girls", "Jazeera Escort Gallery", "Jazeera Scam Alert" and "Jazeera Link Habaru".

"Two persons were arrested on March 06, 2024 in connection with the alleged operation of these channels. They are a 28-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman," police said.

The two were arrested after four searches were conducted by the Cyber ​​Police Center and some items related to the case were seized, police said. Forensic analysis of the items and evidence is being conducted, police said.

"The arrested persons are charged with money laundering, drug trafficking, prostitution, encouraging prostitution, manufacturing and distributing pornography," police said.

The two arrested were produced before the Hulhumale Magistrate Court and remanded in custody for five days initially, and 30 days afterwards.
