The Ministry of Construction has been fined for constructing the Lh. Hinnavaru roads without obtaining the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) report.

In a statement, the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) said Construction Ministry had worked on roads not covered under the concept in the EIA. EPA has taken investigated the matter and documents exchanged between the Road Development Corporation (RDC) and the Construction Ministry, which is carrying out road construction have confirmed that roads that were not included in the EIA concept were constructed.

"Therefore, in violation of the EIA of the Road Construction Project in Lh. Hinnavaru, since the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure is responsible for the construction of the road project which is not covered under the concept of the EIA the Ministry has been fined MVR 200,000 on March 12, 2024," EPA said in a statement.

EPA said it had informed the Construction Ministry that it would have to pay the fine within 30 days.
