Maldives Correctional Services (MCS) has stated the authority is investigating former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's participation in a People's National Front (PNF) rally on Sunday night.

Yammen was sentenced for 11 years in prison over accepting bribes and money laundering in connection with the Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation (MMPRC) scandal and is currently under house arrest.

Yameen was placed under house arrest on October 28 on the condition that he would not participate in political activities and not speak to the media.

Yameen attended the opening ceremony of the PNF's Hulhumale' North constituency candidate Ahmed Latheef's campaign office held at Hulhumale' Phase II.

When contacted, Aminath Yusreen, a media official of Corrections, told One this evening that the Corrections was looking into Yameen's participation in the campaign meeting.

Yameen did not speak at the meeting last night, but he did speak at the meetings held every night at the PNF office.

"Those cases are still under investigation, and we can't provide further information," Yusreen said.

Yameen has been complaining that the conditions imposed on him by corrections make it difficult for him to explain to the public through the media why he had to do politics and form the PNF by quitting the party.
