Former President of the Volleyball Association (VAM) Mohammed Latheef (Latheebe) is the only candidate for the VAM Presidential election scheduled to be held this month.

Latheef, who was recently elected for a second term as the President of the Central Asia Volleyball Association (CAVA), served as the President of the VAM for 2016-2019. He lost his position after former Commissioner of Sports, Heena Ahmed Salim, investigated a case of the Volleyball Association and decided to dissolve Latheef's executive committee and put the association in an interim state.

The VAM has decided to hold a by-election by passing a new constitution. The new constitution has also migrated members to some posts. The post of President became vacant following the resignation of Mohammed Raneesh (Rane).

The VAM is scheduled to hold an election on the 15th of this month. The commissioner's letter also asked the volleyball association to complete the audit report for 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 and the annual general meeting to be held before March 31 each year.

The VAM has announced an extraordinary congress to be held tonight to decide on the issues raised in the commissioner's letter. Therefore, the election is expected to be held on the 15th.

The agenda of the extraordinary congress will include the VAM election and the confidence of Abdullah Nasheed, who was appointed as the VAM's chief executive, until a president is elected. Vice-President-elect Ashraf Ali (Ashra) was very unhappy with the decision and left an earlier exco meeting.
