Police have seized 22 mobile phones from Maafushi jail in a raid related to a scam case.

According to the information released on the police website on Monday, Maafushi prison was raided in connection with the MVR 500,000 from a scam as well as other scam cases.

During the raid at Maafushi prison, police seized 22 mobile phones, 10 chargers, 10 headsets/airpods, two SIM cards and parts of mobile phones, as well as evidence related to the case.

The issue is under investigation, police said.

Police had earlier said that most of the scams were carried out from Maafushi Prison. Police had earlier held discussions with Dhiraagu and Ooredoo to ban the network of a particular area of the prison to solve the problem of scams carried out by the prison, but this has not been done yet.
