Male' City Council has revealed that the Council has distributed staple food to over 5,000 households in Male' city since yesterday afternoon.
City Council is distributing 10kg basmati rice and 10kg flour to the households under the supervision of State Trading Organisation (STO).
According to the council, 5,297 households have been given the staple food between 1000hrs yesterday till noon today and staple food will not be issued on on 1st of Ramadan and Friday.
The staple food distributed in Male' city until noon today include:
- Social Centre: For 1,020 households
- Galolhu farm: For 1,135 households
- Public Services Center (Male' City Council): 632 households
- Birri Mosque Hall (Villimale):452 households
- Umarzahir Building (Phase-I): 782 households
- Youth Centre of Hiyaa Tower 10: For 1,276 households
According to the City Council, the staple food being released from the Youth Centre of Hiyaa Tower 10 in Phase II will be released from Vinares Tower 10 from this evening.
STO said yesterday that arrangements have been made to import, store and distribute the relevant items and will release rice and flour by Saturday.
This is being carried out in consultation with government ministries, councils and some organisations with the help of a large number of people and the property will be released in the Male' area under the supervision of the Male' City Council.
STO said that the goods being transported to the islands were loaded on to the boats on Wednesday and the goods would be released to the households by the island councils.
The issuance will be done on the basis of the number of the electricity meter and residents have to carry their ID card or license or passport indicating his/her nationality to collect the staple food, STO said.
Staple food will be issued between 0900-1300hrs during Ramadan.
