Dhonadhaaradha Higun, where STELCO engines were formerly kept, has been reopened.

Dhonadhaaradha Higun was closed to cater to the city’s increasing electricity demand, delaying the start of the Fourth Power Project, which was then planned to be implemented to build more capacity, to address the issue. The road was closed and a power plant with two 1.5 MW engines was installed.

The work of opening Dhonadhaaradha Higun to ease traffic in the city began on December 17 last year with a strong team including STELCO employees in the Atolls.

The road was reopened by STELCO Managing Director Suhain Fahmee and Transport Minister Mohammed Amin at a special ceremony held in the area yesterday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Fahmee said he received the instruction to open the road from the President himself, thanking him for the work being done for the people.
