Maldives Contracting Company (MTCC) has introduced special benefit packages to its female employees.
Speaking at a maahefun organised by MTCC in the bus parking area of Hulhumale' Ferry Terminal yesterday evening to mark Women's Day, Chief Executive Officer Abdulla Ziyad said that a three-hour break will be given to pregnant employees and female employees with children under the age of two.
"The idea behind such incentives is to ensure a comfortable work environment for pregnant employees and those with toddlers under the age of two," Ziyad said.
He said one of the main reasons why the company celebrates Women's Day every year is to ensure that women also get equal opportunities as men in different arenas.
Ziyad said since its inception, MTCC has strived to create opportunities and empower women employees and has set an example out of it and it is heartening to see women among the faces that can be seen from its sinia management to employees from all walks of life.
Women are already working as female project managers, site supervisors, survey officers, bus attendants, bus drivers and security officers.
"In the future, women will also be seen in the jobs of welders, carpenters, heavy vehicle operators, launch operators and crew," he added.
