President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that a major project to build infrastructure on reclaimed land lying unused in various islands will be launched this year.

Speaking to the people of Hinnavaru this afternoon on a visit to some islands of Lh. Atoll, President Dr. Muizzu said that large tracts of land have been acquired in many islands. He added that the land had not been put to good use and the former government was behind on payments for land reclamation projects.

President Dr. Muizzu said the government is looking into completing payments for the projects.

He said that while land has been acquired in many islands, they remain untreated and have no purpose. Due to lack of water, sanitation, electricity and lack of road construction, they cannot be used for livelihood or other purposes.

Therefore, he said that a special project to build infrastructure on the reclaimed land would be launched this year, including those islands that have already been reclaimed and have no purpose.
