Police have launched an investigation into the incident in which MDP's candidate from Faresmathoda constituency, Ahmed Zaeem, had black oil thrown at him while he was en-route to the parliamentary debate.

Police said the incident was reported to the police at around 1611hrs when two people on a motorbike threw black oil at Zaeem Maldives National University (MNU) parking zone and the matter is under investigation.

In a post on X, MDP posted a series of photos of Zaeem being smeared with black oil on the left side of his shirt.

In the past, MPs of opposition parties have been smeared with black oil in the past as part of political rivalry, and posters have also been smeared with black oil.
