President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the government will propose amendments to the laws to give councils a certain percentage of the state's tax revenue.

Addressing the people of Vaavu Keyodhoo the President said the government's vision is to shape things in such a way that the people will benefit through the councils through the decentralisation system.

The opportunity has been opened for each island to acquire a lagoon or island near or far from the island to facilitate additional income for the councils, he said.

He said he would ensure that each council receives a certain percentage of the revenue from the tourism industry, as well as fishing and agriculture. Then the councils will be able to do the things that need to be done in the islands from their own budgets without relying on the annual budget, he said.
