President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to launch a major project in all schools in the Maldives next year to generate electricity from renewable energy.

Speaking to the people of Felidhoo island as part of the President's visit to V. Atoll, the President said that during his visits, a large number of students were asking for school classrooms to be air-conditioned.

"We will start a major project next year. This year's budget doesn't have that. We can install AC's in classes but we still have to consider bills every month. So, it will be sustainable to go to solar power and go to renewable energy," he said.

He said that the process of installing AC's in all schools nationwide will be carried out next year.

"In some schools, some students, some teachers want to keep classrooms without AC and we will give that option. It is not compulsory to install AC's in all the classrooms and we will facilitate it for those schools that want it," President Dr. Muizzu said.

He further said that some children in the islands expressed concern over the lack of a children's park, which was part of his manifesto and he would work with the councils to build children's parks.
