The Maldives has called for a ban on the sale of firearms to Israel.

Maldives Ambassador to the United Nations Dr. Ali Naseer made the call at the United Nations General Assembly on the Use of Veto held today.

In a statement on behalf of the Maldives, Naseer said Israel had been granted a license to kill and wound Palestinians on February 20 after it vetoed a case against Israel at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

"Israel has since carried out attacks against Palestinians in need of humanitarian aid on February 29," Naseer said.

"The UNSC should take immediate action against Israel's atrocities against the Palestinian people and try to stop the genocide," Naseer said, adding that the international community should fight against Israeli war crimes and hold Israel accountable.
