People's National Front (PNF, formed by former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, has submitted forms to Election Commission (EC) for party registration.

Former communications minister Mohamed Maleeh Jamal, who led the formation of the party, today said he hoped to get permission to hold the meeting as soon as possible as the number of applications had been submitted to the EC to form the party.

EC's Vice-President Ismail Habib also said that the EC had given the go-ahead for the formation of a political party in the name of PNF on 29 November 2023 while 3,060 applications were submitted to the EC on behalf of Zayn Abdulla Yameen (President Yameen's son) during the period specified in the Political Parties Act.

Habib said the process of verifying the authenticity of the forms has already begun and once the authenticity of at least 3,000 members is verified, Zayn Abdulla Yameen will be allowed to hold the meeting to form the party without delay.

Yameen quit PPM and started the process of forming a new political party called PNF on November 29, 2023.
