The true speed of this government will be seen by giving space to government representatives in the Parliament, Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam has said.
The minister made the statement while speaking to the residents of Haa Dhaalu Nolhivaranfaru as part of his ongoing tour of the North. As such. the minister said that the previous government had neglected many islands even when it had a supermajority in the parliament.
"A five-year budget of no less than MVR 168 billion. Where is that money?" Shiyam questioned.
He noted that there are major difficulties in moving things forward at the pace the government wants as the opposition has a majority in parliament. He stressed that even if the President wanted to, some people in certain positions could not be dismissed.
Shiyam further stressed that President Muizzu has a speed that no other leader has ever had before.
“The real speed of this government will be seen when government representatives and government-backed candidates come to parliament,” he said.
He added that the country was economically bankrupt when this government took over but the President is working hard to revive the economy.
