President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that an important agricultural project will be carried out in G. Kondey.
Speaking to the people of Kondey this evening as part of his visit to the southern islands, he said kondey could boost the agriculture sector in a big way and the government's most important economic policy was to strengthen the agriculture sector.
"Therefore, I have assured that for the development of the island, we will take up an important agriculture project in collaboration with the local people and the council. This will increase the income of many citizens," he said.
The President noted that it is an important policy of the government to produce all kinds of goods that can be produced in the Maldives to meet the needs of the people of the Maldives.
"Therefore, the second goal of the policy is to produce all kinds of food items that the tourism industry also needs and all kinds of food that can be produced in the country. Since this work is also being carried out in the country, the land in the island needs to be utilised to a great extent," he said.
He further said that this would increase the income of many people manifold for the future of the Konde people and he wanted to bring important investment to the villages where such land is large and is already engaged in agriculture.
Apart from this work, the government will also take up the expansion of konde port, development of health centre, addressing power crisis and providing ATM services, he said.
