The Administration has signed an agreement to sponsor bone marrow transplants for ten recipients annually for the next five years.
The agreement was signed at a special ceremony held at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs today.
The agreement was signed between the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and the Ministry of Health to support the bone marrow transplants for the underprivileged among thalassaemia children with the help of Zakat Fund.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs by Minister of State Dr. Mohamed Shujau Abdul Hakim and signed by Minister of State for Health Aminath Shirna.
According to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, for the next five years, ten children will be sent for bone marrow transplant every year and if we look at the next five years, a total of MVR 50 million will be spent on ten children, 50 children in five years.
According to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, each child sent for a bone marrow transplant will be given in a manner that does not exceed MVR 1 million per child.
It was President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's presidential pledge to set up a system that allows thalassaemia children to get bone marrow transplants free of charge.
