The Ministry of Education is paying contractors to continue the stalled projects in the education sector, Education Minister Ismail Shafeeu has said.
Speaking to the residents of Gaafu Dhaalu Gaddhoo as part of the President's tour of the South, Minister Shafeeu said the Education Ministry owes MVR 120 million due to the previous government. The money is due to various contractors carrying out 107 projects.
"We have already paid MVR 50 million to the contractors with the work of President Dr. Muizzu. At the same time, MVR 43 million is underway. I believe that the Gaddhoo Multipurpose Hall and all the stalled projects in other villages will hopefully be paid to the contractors. It will continue at a fast pace,” Shafeeu said.
Shafeeu said the previous government did not send enough teachers to the school. However, President Muizzu will appoint Gaddhoo, teachers for the new academic year, he said.
He said the development of Gaddhoo has not made much progress due to the negligence of the previous government. However, President Muizzu intends to develop Gaddhoo as well. Therefore, Gaddhoo will be developed with President Muizzu, he said.
